A brilliant day on the green (and beyond!) for Re-Source

What a cracker of a day we had on Friday, April 11th, for our very first Re-Source Charity Golf Tournament and Auction. Hosted by the Hawke’s Bay Golf Club under perfect Bay sunshine, the whole event was a roaring success. We're absolutely thrilled to share that thanks to incredible community spirit, so far we've raised close to $10,000 for Re-Source, with more to come.

The day kicked off with 100 keen golfers hitting the fairways for an 18-hole Ambrose tournament. It was brilliant to see so many people out enjoying themselves, sharing laughs, and having a bit of friendly competition – all for a great cause. Golfers were kept fuelled with a classic sausage sizzle and some delicious home baking, keeping the energy high throughout the afternoon.

Well deserved tournament winners were TVP Polo, who took away the trophy and top prize of 4 x $100 Mitre10 vouchers and golf balls donated by Forsyth Barr with a winning net score of 50!

As the day wound down, the clubhouse became a real hub of activity. Non-golfers joined the players for an evening filled with great vibes. The wonderfully talented Mahina Lawrence provided beautiful live music, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

Our charity auction was a real highlight, with heaps of amazing items generously donated by Hawke's Bay organisations up for grabs. A massive thank you to Pete Scott, our energetic auctioneer, who did a superb job getting the bids rolling in.

It was also fantastic to have some of our very own Re-Sew volunteers on site, showcasing their incredible mahi. They displayed and sold beautiful clothing and household items, all creatively repurposed from donated materials – a perfect example of Re-Source in action.

This event was about more than just golf and auctions; it was a chance to raise crucial funds and awareness for Re-Source's mission right here in Hawke's Bay – connecting surplus resources with local people and whānau who need them most. Seeing the community come together like this was truly heart-warming.

We absolutely couldn't have pulled this off alone. A massive thank you goes out to our key supporters:

  • Rotary Havelock North – Your support throughout the planning stages and on the day was invaluable. The donation of firewood and gazebo was hugely appreciated

  • Hawke's Bay Golf Club – Thank you for being such wonderful hosts and partners

  • Mahina Lawrence – Your music added so much to the evening and there have been many requests to hear you sing again

  • Pete Scott – You were a star on the auction block, absolutely brilliant.

  • Family Start at Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga – For you donation of $1000, which helped us meet the costs of the day

  • Bunnings – For providing the sausage sizzle, along with two awesome team members

  • Ali and Pete Roberts – The extraordinary volunteers who made the day a reality

Huge thanks as well to the many generous local organisations and people who donated prizes and auction items – your contributions made a massive difference. And, of course, thank you to every single golfer, bidder, supporter and volunteer who participated and gave so generously.

It was a phenomenal result that will directly help us continue our work turning surplus into support within our community. We can’t wait to do it again next year.

Thank you, Hawke’s Bay for getting behind Re-Source and joining us to make a difference in our community.

Ngā mihi nui (With grateful thanks),

Nadine and the Re-Source Team
